Your wedding, told
as it truly happened
A wedding and elopement photographer based in France, capturing your day with warmth, discretion and a documentary eye. Real emotions, natural light, and images that still move you years later.
I don't direct your day,
I follow it
For more than fifteen years, I've had the honour of photographing over three hundred weddings across France and beyond. My approach is simple: I don't direct your day, I follow it. No stiff posing, no endless group shots that pull you away from your guests. I stay quietly present, on the lookout for the moments you won't always get to see in the whirlwind, the look, the laughter, the tears of joy.
I am Stéphane Joly, based in the north of France, near Arras and Lille, and I travel throughout the country and abroad for the right celebration. And let me be honest with you, because I'd rather you hear it from me: I have a good understanding of English and I'm learning to speak it better every day. My spoken English is still a work in progress, so to make sure nothing is ever lost between us I use Ray-Ban Meta glasses with real-time translation. During the wedding, whenever a moment needs precise words, we communicate smoothly.

The photographer you forget,
the images you treasure
I'm the kind of photographer you almost forget about during the day, but whose images you'll treasure for a lifetime. I blend into the atmosphere, discreet yet always attentive, capturing every powerful moment without interrupting the natural flow of your day. Before we ever talk about gear or timelines, I want to know who you are, what makes you laugh, what moves you. The better I understand you, the more your photos will truly look like you.
Whether you're planning a grand celebration with all your loved ones or running away for an intimate elopement, just the two of you, my eye and my care stay the same. An elopement isn't a smaller wedding, it's a different kind of story: quieter, freer, often in a breathtaking setting. I love telling both. You can read more about how I work on my approach page, and see the result in my portfolio.
Nothing staged
I never ask you to pose like a catalogue. I'm there at the right moment, in the right place, to catch the small instants that make the big emotions.
Timeless images
Nothing left to chance: the light, the composition, the details. Timeless images, crafted with heart, that age beautifully and never chase a trend.
More than a photographer
Photographer, yes, but also a calm, supportive presence on a day full of emotion. Often the first to see you ready, sometimes the one who helps you breathe.
Based in the North,
at home everywhere
Based in the north of France, near Arras and Lille, I travel throughout the country and beyond for the right celebration.
Northern France & the Opal Coast
My home territory around Arras and Lille, where I know the venues, the light and the finest estates of the region: the white cliffs of the Opal Coast facing England, Le Touquet, the châteaux and renovated farms of the countryside. For British couples, the closest corner of France: 35 minutes through the Eurotunnel and you are here.
From the châteaux to the lavender
Wherever your story takes you: Normandy and its cliffs, the vineyards of Champagne, the châteaux of the Oise near Paris, the South of France and its golden light, and château weddings across the whole country.
Beyond the borders
Belgium, forty five minutes from my home, Italy, and beyond. Travel is part of what I do; just tell me where you're saying yes, and I always arrive the day before.
The more remote, the better
A mountaintop, a coastline, a hidden chapel. For elopements, the more remote and meaningful, the better. Coming from abroad to marry in France? Discover my dedicated page for international couples.

Your questions,
my answers
- Do you speak English?Honestly: I understand English well and I'm learning to speak it better all the time, though I'm not fully fluent yet. To make sure nothing is ever lost, I use Ray-Ban Meta glasses with live translation for any moment that needs precise words. And after 300+ weddings, I anticipate the day visually, so communication is never a barrier to great photographs.
- What's the difference between a wedding and an elopement for you?None in the care I bring, only in the story. A wedding is a celebration with your loved ones; an elopement is an intimate ceremony, just the two of you or a precious few, often in a stunning setting. I photograph both with the same documentary, emotion-first approach.
- Where do you travel?I'm based in the north of France, near Arras and Lille, and I travel throughout France including the châteaux near Paris, Normandy, Champagne and the South, as well as Belgium, Italy and beyond. Travel and accommodation are calculated in advance at their real price and included transparently in your quote, so you always know the exact final amount before booking.
- How many photos do we receive, and when? You receive between 600 and 800 fully retouched photographs from a full wedding, delivered on average within four weeks in a private online gallery you can download in high definition and share with family worldwide, accessible for one year.
- How do we plan everything if we live abroad?Entirely by email and video call, at times that suit your time zone. We discuss your venue, your timeline and the images that matter to you well before the day, so by the time you arrive we already know each other. For distant weddings, I always arrive the day before, rested and with your venue already scouted.
Their words,
my finest rewards
We want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the wonderful photos and for being there on our wedding day. We loved your discreet, easy-going presence, which made the whole atmosphere even calmer. The photos are simply brilliant. It's incredible how you captured the moments and the emotions, and we were so touched that you took beautiful shots of every single one of our guests.
You captured everything and gave it all back to us. You had eyes everywhere, on the lookout for every burst of laughter, every embrace, and it makes your photos so alive and natural. The weather wasn't great that day, yet our photos sparkle with joy and love. So happy we had you travel 800 km to immortalise this. Thank you for everything.
