Wedding Photographer
in Luxembourg
A natural, luminous documentary approach to capture the true emotion of your wedding in Luxembourg. A country where the whole world meets, wrapped around a storybook old town of ravines and fortresses, with the wine valley of the Moselle just beyond: a wedding at the crossroads of Europe, told as it truly happened.
Capturing the real,
not the posed
Getting married in Luxembourg means trusting your photographer with emotions that will never happen twice. The look you exchange on a terrace above the Grund, in a garden looking out over the ravines, or among the vines of the Moselle. The tearful laugh of a parent on your arm. That fleeting glance during the vows, in whichever of your languages you chose to say them. This is what I come for: the true moment, the one that cannot be staged.
I am Stéphane Joly, a wedding photographer specialised in documentary reportage for more than fifteen years, based in Arras in northern France, a little over three hours from Luxembourg City. The Grand Duchy is unlike anywhere else in Europe: nearly half its residents come from somewhere else, which makes its weddings gloriously international, blending nationalities, languages and traditions in a single day. That is the kind of celebration my documentary approach loves most. I am a destination photographer: couples choose me for my eye, then I come to them, and for every Luxembourg wedding I arrive the day before, rested, with your venue scouted in the evening light. My promise never changes: to be present without intruding, to capture the natural rather than direct it, and to deliver a gallery of 600 to 800 retouched photographs, within 4 weeks on average. You can see how I work with international couples on my destination wedding page and find my collections on the investment page. Travel to Luxembourg is calculated at its real cost and included transparently in your personalised quote, so there is nothing to calculate on your side.
And let me be honest with you, because I would rather you hear it from me. I have a good understanding of English and I am learning to speak it better every day. My spoken English is still a work in progress, so to make sure nothing is ever lost between us I use Ray-Ban Meta glasses with real-time translation. During the wedding, whenever a moment needs precise words, we communicate smoothly. French is my native language too, which many couples in Luxembourg find easy to work with.
Three moments,
one same story
Before, during, after. Three ways to tell your love story, from the old town to the vines.
Wedding reportage
The heart of my work. Full coverage from the preparations to the party. Civil ceremonies at the commune, blessings and symbolic ceremonies in a château or a garden, couple portraits above the Grund at golden hour, and the warmth of a celebration where five nationalities toast at the same table.

Elopement & intimate weddings
A small ceremony among the Moselle vines, in a castle courtyard or on a viewpoint over the old town. Luxembourg is compact and full of dramatic backdrops within minutes of each other, which makes it a wonderful place for couples who want intimacy over scale.

Engagement & After Day
A relaxed couple session in the days before or after your wedding, in your dress and suit or simply as yourselves. The casemates and viewpoints of the old town, the banks of the Alzette in the Grund, the Moselle vineyards at sunset: Luxembourg packs a lot of beauty into a short walk.

Photographing a wedding
at the crossroads of Europe
Luxembourg is a country like no other: tiny on the map, immense in variety. Its capital is a Unesco World Heritage site, a dramatic city built across ravines, with the old town perched on the heights and the Grund nestled in the valley below, linked by casemates carved into the rock. Beyond the city, the Moselle wine valley rolls out its terraced vineyards, the Ardennes hide castles in the forest, and everywhere the same striking fact: nearly half the people here came from somewhere else. Weddings in Luxembourg are, by nature, weddings of the whole world.
My approach to documentary reportage rests on a simple conviction: the most beautiful photographs happen when you forget the camera. I stay discreet and unobtrusive, blending naturally into your day without ever directing it. I arrive ahead of the preparations to catch those intimate first moments: hands adjusting a cufflink, the reflection in the mirror when you discover your dress, the quiet words between loved ones in whichever language home is spoken. During the ceremony, at the commune, in a château or a garden over the valley, I position myself with discretion to capture the glances, the tears of joy, the warmth of families who have often flown in from several countries. The couple session is a moment I especially look forward to: we slip away for about twenty minutes at golden hour, to a viewpoint over the old town or into the vines, to create natural, unposed images away from the celebration.
An international wedding asks a photographer to read a room where several cultures meet, to sense the customs that matter to each family and to catch the small bridges built between them across a single day. It is exactly what I love. For your Luxembourg wedding, I arrive the day before, rested, with your venue scouted in the evening light, and travel is calculated at its real cost and included transparently in your personalised quote. You then receive between 600 and 800 individually retouched photographs, within 4 weeks on average, in a private online gallery accessible for one year.
The most beautiful settings
of Luxembourg
Five emblematic settings to anchor your wedding in the soul of the Grand Duchy.
The old town & the Grund
The heart of the capital is pure drama: the Unesco-listed old town on its rocky spur, the casemates tunnelled into the cliffs, and the Grund far below, a village of stone houses along the Alzette. The viewpoints of the Corniche, called the most beautiful balcony in Europe, offer couple portraits with the whole city as a backdrop, glowing at golden hour and lit up at blue hour.
The Moselle wine valley
Half an hour from the city, the Moselle traces the eastern border with terraced vineyards famous for their Crémant and Riesling. Wine estates and riverside villages host ceremonies and receptions with the vines climbing behind them, and a couple session among the rows at sunset, glass of Crémant in hand, is one of the sweetest things Luxembourg offers.
The castles of the north
The Luxembourg Ardennes hide storybook castles in the forest, with Vianden as their crown, perched above the river like a fairy tale. For couples who dream of a castle wedding without the crowds, the north of the Grand Duchy is a quiet secret full of stone, greenery and romance.
The wedding venues
Luxembourg weddings unfold in elegant communal halls for the civil ceremony, then in châteaux, country estates and vineyard domaines for the celebration. Distances are short, so a day can move easily from a city ceremony to a countryside party, which keeps the reportage flowing without long transfers.
The international weddings
The signature of the Grand Duchy: weddings that gather the world. A couple met in Luxembourg's institutions or finance, families arriving from several countries, vows in one language and speeches in three. My documentary approach moves easily between cultures, and my native French helps everything run smoothly with venues and officiants.
Your questions about
a wedding in Luxembourg
These are the questions that come up most often with couples planning their wedding in Luxembourg.
- Do you photograph weddings in Luxembourg?Yes, with great pleasure. I am a destination photographer: couples choose me for my eye, then I come to them. Luxembourg is a little over three hours from my base in Arras, so it is very accessible. I arrive the day before, rested, and scout your venue in the evening light. Travel is calculated at its real cost and included transparently in your personalised quote, so there is nothing to calculate on your side.
- We live in Luxembourg. How does the legal side work?Simply, for residents. Your civil marriage takes place at the commune where one of you lives, whatever your nationality, and it is the only legally binding ceremony. Many couples then add a religious blessing or a symbolic ceremony at their venue, with complete freedom of place and words. I photograph the civil ceremony and the celebration as one continuous story, and I am used to the rhythm of a commune ceremony followed by a party in the countryside.
- Do you speak English?Honestly: I understand English well and I am learning to speak it better all the time, though I am not fully fluent yet. To make sure nothing is ever lost, I use Ray-Ban Meta glasses with live translation for any moment that needs precise words. And with more than 300 weddings behind me, I anticipate the day visually, so communication is never a barrier to great photographs. French is my native language too, which helps with venues and officiants across the Grand Duchy.
- Our wedding will mix several nationalities. Is that a problem? It is my favourite kind of wedding. Luxembourg is one of the most international places in the world, and I am well used to celebrations where several cultures, languages and traditions meet in one day. I take the time before the wedding to understand the customs that matter to each family, so I can anticipate the meaningful moments, from a particular ritual to a speech in a language I will not need to understand to photograph the emotion it creates.
- What are the most beautiful photo locations in Luxembourg? The viewpoints of the old town over the Grund, especially the Corniche at golden hour, are unbeatable. The Moselle vineyards glow at sunset for couple portraits. The castle of Vianden in the Ardennes brings pure fairy tale. And within the city, the casemates and the banks of the Alzette offer a whole range of settings within a short walk, which is a real luxury on a wedding day.
- How many photos will we receive, and when? For a full wedding day, you can count on 600 to 800 individually retouched images, sometimes more depending on the day, delivered within 4 weeks on average in a secure private online gallery, accessible for one year, in high definition. The rendering is soft, luminous and timeless, faithful to the atmosphere of your day. For elopements and shorter coverage, the number of images is adapted and delivery is faster.
- When is the best season to get married in Luxembourg?May to September offers the greenest valleys and the longest evenings, with the old town glowing late into the night. September is especially lovely, with the harvest atmosphere along the Moselle and softer light. Autumn paints the Ardennes and the vineyards in warm colours, beautiful for portraits, while the city looks magical under the first cold clear skies of winter.
- How does the first meeting work?I offer a first meeting that is free and without obligation, by video call, of about 20 minutes, in French or in English as you prefer. It is the moment to talk about your plans, your venue, the settings you dream of, and to see whether my approach matches what you are looking for. I then come back to you quickly with a personalised quote. Your date is confirmed on receipt of the 30% deposit and the contract signed online, with the balance settled a few weeks before the wedding.
Their words,
my finest rewards
We came from Switzerland and could not have dreamed of a better photographer. Stéphane made us feel at ease immediately, he was present all day without us ever noticing him, and the photos are beyond anything we hoped for. Every image brings back the emotion of the moment exactly as we lived it.
We travelled 800 kilometres to work with Stéphane and we would do it again without hesitation. His documentary approach is exactly what we were looking for: nothing staged, nothing forced, just our day as it truly happened. The gallery tells the story of our wedding with a sincerity that moves us every time we open it.
